FlagShip

A nations flag is something held in high regard by it's nationals. It symbolizes that particular country globally. It cannot be confused with any other and is basically that countries stamp, even signature if you will.

We walk around professing lines like 'If you stand for nothing you fall for anything' yet we only see it fit to do this regarding our individual lives. We need to think about our country in the same way instead of acting as though we are separate and apart from our nation.
Let us not be fooled thinking this is just an ad, and these learned professionals just had a slight lapse in judgement when they decided to go this route. Friends, Jamaicans they could not use their own flag because of the esteem which it is held in. They even have laws protecting it. You mean to tell me that a nation that has such law saw it fit to bestow that offensive action on ours and some of you want to react as though they didn't even step on your toe?! They out right slapped us in the face!

I agree, we have pressing issues at home to address, but this is why we have different sectors in government to address different issues. I am glad that a statement has been issued regarding the matter. We cannot sit back and accept everything we are dealt. If we turn a blind eye to this only God knows what they will do next.
Many of you fail to realize how this impacts your counterparts in the diaspora. It is difficult to go about doing things to benefit the homeland and defend its honour if those at home are being nonchalant and nonproductive. Wake up and smell the coffee!

For more information I think the following article is a good read to some degree:

The Organization for Strategic Development in Jamaica

Let us not go away thinking that this blog is the first initiative ever started to propel Jamaicans into taking responsibility for the nation...Far from it..After all, there is nothing new under the sun.

As such, we seek to promote other such initiatives to help Jamaicans find the avenue that best suits them in aiding the cause. A prominent one that we will highlight this week is - The Organization for Stategic Development in Jamaica -  www.osdjamaica.com

The organization is committed to leading healthcare, community development and educational initiative to strengthen and improve the quality of life in Jamaica by helping Jamaicans through effective partnerships with individuals, corporations, academic institutions, churches, Para-church organizations and civic groups.

Many Jamaicans in the diaspora are able to offer a helping hand through this cause.

Many Jamaicans studying medicine internationally, involve themselves in activities that send them around the world to help other nations in the very same way. This organization is offering you an opportunity to do it for your very own country that has contributed to the value of your life.

They do not only need the help of the diaspora but those of us who are still at home. We have as much to share as the others and this is a way for us to get involved as well. You do not have to be in the medical field to add value to this organization. I have no medical training but I do have business training that they are able to put to use. I encourage you to 'Get up & Do!'

For further details please visit their website - www.osdjamaica.com or leave a request below for information.

The Church?

We are blessed to still be able to live in a country where the opinion of the church is still valued. We see this evidenced in the consistent calls for the church's opinion when different decisions are made by our government or sentiments expressed. We see it in our schools where we are still blessed to have devotional activities. We see it in our people who still run to church in times of need or are always requesting prayers from the avid churchgoers.

The members of the church seem to be content with offering prayers. Prayers are always needed and I am in no way discounting the worth of prayer. Nonetheless, God has provided us with able bodies to get up, go out and DO! The apostles were sent to nations & cities to teach and we should follow suit. We may not all be blessed with the gift of being a preacher but we all have something to offer.

Children and adults need mentors- someone they can seek guidance and help from throughout the stages of their lives. People need to learn skills, trades or even polish skills they are already building. Everyone has a need to belong and the church is able to fulfill that need if we begin to give of ourselves instead of only being their to judge and act aloof because you believe you are saved and are thus on a higher level from the rest of the population. My friends that is not love.

We are called to DO..let's get to it.

The Beginning

This blog was born out of frustration..Frustration with the government, the church and the population at large. We as a people seem to have somehow lost our way in our ability to help ourselves and take pride in being the ones to be the brightest highlighter of all the negatives in our country and point the finger, usually, at our government officials. No doubt, these officials have a role to play and we elect them in an effort to move our country forward but alas, we have been failed time and time again.
Nonsensically, we stick to the same pattern as though we expect new results. The same formula will ALWAYS provide the SAME result so let us wake up and stop fooling ourselves.

FALLACY #1 - THE GOVERNMENT IS THE CAUSE OF All OUR PROBLEMS
The government is a group of people. Just like you and I, they make decisions albeit on a higher level. They seem to believe/ hope these decisions are in the best interest of the nation. Since they are human they make errors. Sadly, the set we have experienced seem to make some of the worst ones. Nonetheless, we the people have a say, we have a voice that we neglect to utilize. We have avenues we do not explore. How many of us actually know our laws and all the ways in which we can make a difference and let our voices be heard? How many of us actually try to put programs/initiatives in motion to help? How many of us are actively seeking to be agents of change? The majority of us pass our negative remarks then sit back and do nothing. We have a part to play. Let us take responsibility for our actions or lack thereof

Fallacy #2 -I AM JUST A MAN..I CAN'T DO ANYTHING
All of us are not born leaders, but we can still have an influence on someone. Everyone does not need to be the one in the limelight. Some of us are better suited elsewhere. Some of us need to put our plans in action so that persons can get on board and the team forges ahead and others of us need to be members of those teams because no man is an island - We need each other. Find an avenue suited for you and get to work!

FALLACY #3 - EVERY MAN FI DEM SELF
Many of us have been living by this motto and look where it has gotten us!! We complain about not having anyone to trust or not having a supportive family but we are not showing ourselves unselfish. If you want to receive you must give. None of us have everything we will need in life. We don't have access to all things but your neighbour does. If we learn to lend a hand we would all progress together

FALLACY #4 - NUTN GOOD NUH DEH A JAMAICA
I am sure we don't link in the mirror and say "'well I don't deserve anything good because I am in/from Jamaica". We all want good that is why we are unhappy with our current state of affairs. We have good parents, good schools, good homes, good people, good businesses, good athletes and the list is endless. Let us have some pride in ourselves and our people and what we can do!

I could go on with the fallacies but I think you get my drift....We can achieve greatness together...it will not be easy but it is possible. This blog is aimed and promoting ventures that will boost our country in every sphere and I welcome all feedback and insight. I challenge you to get up and do something for the nation! Do something to ensure a positive future for our children! Do something to secure the future our forefathers fought for with their lives!...Welcome to the journey if you are bold enough to accept the Challenge.............
